Let's start with an example:

Let's say an online store decides to buy traffic for their holiday ad campaign. For this, the store prepares a new offer.

The online store offer includes a short description, several pre-approved banner images and payment terms. Payment terms define that a conversion is a sale of holiday decor, and the online store pays a reward for each successful conversion.

One of the ad networks this store works with, shows interest in the offer and decides on the price they are willing to pay their affiliates for each conversion. The network is looking for affiliates to promote the offer, and affiliates interested in this offer, bring traffic.

The store uses HOQU to measure affiliate traffic and associate that traffic with conversions. This attribution process provides an objective measure of the effectiveness of an offer for advertisers, networks and affiliates.

A few words about sessions

In the example above and in practice, the data comes to HOQU from both an affiliate and an advertiser. When a user clicks on an affiliate ad or converts, HOQU stores these interactions in the session. A session is a collection of recorded user actions and information about him.

HOQU uses sessions to associate user clicks with their conversions. Sessions contain identifiers for the parameters of the user path and the session itself. Each session is unique and connects users and their conversions with specific offers, affiliates and networks.

Tracking and conversion links

HOQU can automatically track sessions. All you have to do is to prepare your affiliates (and advertisers, if you are a network) to transmit information to HOQU. To do this, you create and distribute tracking and conversion links.

Tracking links are used by affiliates to track and send you user information. When an affiliate promotes one of your offers, they use your link to track user behavior regarding the ad. Then, when a user clicks on that ad, your tracking link:

Creates a session and HOQU begins to track it.
Optionally requests and saves additional information from the affiliate.
Redirects the user to the ad's landing page.

Conversion links are used by advertisers to send conversion information to networks or affiliates. When a network launches an advertiser's offer, the advertiser records conversions using the network's conversion link for that offer. Then, when a user converts on that offer, the conversion link:

Identifies the user's session in HOQU.
If desired, requests and stores additional information from the advertiser.
Records the conversion for this user in the session.

With HOQU, you will create, customize and provide these links to your affiliates and advertisers.

Additional info on sessions

We mentioned that sessions track various parameters required for attribution. In HOQU, you can also request and store other information from affiliates and advertisers, for example: user's region, type of mobile device or web browser.

This information can be extremely valuable for your business, especially when you want your offers to perform better than usual. Using session information in HOQU, you can also:

Selectively change offers.
Set up payments for offers and your income.
Filter session data and generate reports.
